Photos: Bar Matchless’ last riotous night in Greenpoint before being forced to close

This week, another longtime, beloved Brooklyn business bit the dust following lease disputes with a landlord. Greenpoint’s Bar Matchless has been forced to move out after 15 years in the neighborhood following the purchase of the building by a new landlord who wouldn’t renew the bar’s lease. Matchless announced the sad news on Monday, less than a week after cancelling all of their shows but temporarily resisting closure.

Fans of the bar came out in force to say goodbye, packing the space just a few hours after Matchless posted a brief and devastated farewell announcement. Yesterday and today, those who came out to help breakdown the bar were rewarded with free drinks.

So be true to your bar and pour one out for Bar Matchless’ 15 year reign on Manhattan Ave. It was a good run, and it ended too soon. Here are some photos from Matchless’ last night in Greenpoint, and some sad social media posts announcing and bemoaning its fate.
