If you’ve spent the whole summer with a beard or mustache or any facial hair really, you have our respect. Even though it wasn’t boiling hot this summer, carrying extra hair on your body isn’t comfortable in the least. But, you did it, and now you’re maybe expecting a reward for all those mustache rides you gave. Lucky for you, Coney Island will be recognizing the greatness of beards and mustaches in just a couple weeks at the sixth edition of the Coney Island Beard and Mustache Competition.

Think you’ve got what it takes to take home the prize in the category of Best in Show, Best Styled Mustache, Best Natural Mustache, Best Styled Beard, Best Natural Beard, Best Fake Beard, Best Fake Mustache or the sought-after Worst in Show? Then come on down to Sideshows by the Seashore (1208 Surf Avenue), on Saturday September 7 at 6pm, where host Adam RealMan will lead a panel of judges to determine whose facial hair is the hair of champions and whose is merely scruff.

For you $20, not only can you laugh at or be awed by all the beards and mustaches, there’ll also be entertainment, including bearded woman Jennifer Miller, Cardone the Magician, and a straight razor shave area for those of you who like going clean shaven. Whether you’re competing or just hanging around to see the festivities, keep one thing in mind: make sure you don’t have food in your beard. That’s not a good look.
