BK Top 5: The best things to do tonight, from Simpsons Club to the Bushwick Book Club

Hell yeah it does
Hell yeah it does

Hoo boy, okay, here we go. It’s Monday, and there’s no short week to revel in this week. It’s right back to the normal grind…that is unless you’re working a half day or not at all because of Rosh Hashanah. If that’s the case, thank your nearest Jewish friend, or just the first one you see on the street. Then, tell them that after they’re done with apples and honey and all that, to come with you to one of these fun things do to tonight, found on the Brokelyn Event Calendar.

THE TEENGAGE GUIDE TO POPULARITY MUSIC TRIVIA NIGHT
The Teenage Guide To Popularity has been DJing in the hopes that it helps you make out with people for a year now, but they want to see if you’ve learned anything in that time (besides how to make out). Specifically, they want to see what you’ve learned about music, so come on out and show off that knowledge that spans eras and genres, with the goal of winning a bar tab or a mystery prize. Don’t forget to show up early to see the VJ set that opens the night.
8pm, Passenger Bar, 229 Roebling Street, Williamsburg, FREE

BUSHWICK BOOK CLUB PRESENTS: A TREE GROWS IN BROOKLYN
Maybe you were once in a book club, and maybe you even did A Tree Grows in Brooklyn Once, but unless you were in the Bushwick Book Club, you didn’t turn your discussions of the book into songs, dance, visual art or even food. The BBC did that though, and will be presenting all this Tree-based art for your amusement tonight.
8pm, Superfine, 126 Front Street, DUMBO, FREE

VIRGO PARTY
Far be it from me to understand why Sycamore would allow a weird cult to have a Vigo Party and celebrate the fictional murderous and mystical tyrant Vigo the Carpathian but…ohhh, hah, sorry. It’s a VIRGO party, which means if your birthday makes you a Virgo that you get happy hour prices all night. It sounds fun even if you’re birthday doesn’t fall between August 23 and September 22 though, since you can get flower crowns and even a tarot reading if you’re up for it.
7pm, Sycamore, 1118 Cortelyou Road, Ditmas Park, FREE

SIMPSONS CLUB
After taking the summer off The Simpsons Club is making a glorious return to Nitehawk, so you can get your fix of three classic episodes plus ephemera from the era like commercials. Tonight’s tribute is guest hosted by WFMU DJ Amanda Nazario, who’s promised episodes from seasons 3, 6 and 13. Just so you know, that means “Homer at the Bat” and the the episode where Shelbyville steals Springfield’s lemon tree are on the table.
10pm, Nitehawk Cinema, 136 Metropolitan Avenue, Williamsburg, FREE

MFA VS BK: ALEXANDER CHEE, ROB SPILLMAN, HANNAH TINTI, JESSICA LOUDIS
Ah yes, the classic argument: can you be a better writer by learning it in your fancy ivory tower as you study for an MFA, or will you learn more to be a better writer out on the streets, in between knife fights? The Sacket Street Writers Workshop’s Julia Fierro hosts four writers and editors who will share their thoughts on what the best way to learn to write is. For the sake of your wallet, you should hope they agree the answer is “the streets.”
7pm, Bookcourt, 163 Court Street, Cobble Hill, FREE
