1. It’s your penultimate chance for the waterfront lit series Books Beneath the Bridge. This week Word Books showcases fantasy novelists Naomi Novik and Peter V. Brett. (Monday, FREE)

2. Relive your youthful g-l-o-r-y—or create some glory your young self never knew—at the Williamsburg Spelling Bee. With any luck, you might even get m-e-m-e-d while you’re at it. (Monday, FREE)

3. If spelling’s not your thing, prove you’re not just some sucker MC at Hip-Hop Trivia, hosted by rapper / producer / funny man Donwill. (Tuesday, FREE)

4. Or if hip-hop’s not your groove, head to Bizarre Bar for the 4th annual Kate Bush-wick Burlesque, presented by sultry ladies Poison Eve, Darlinda Just Darlinda, and Severely Mame. (Tuesday, $7 suggested)

5. Or just hold on to your butts as SummerScreen presents Jurassic Park. (Wednesday, FREE)

6. If you love karaoke but dread another screechy off-key Katy Perry rendition, check out Interference Archive’s Karaoke With a Message, hosted at Silent Barn, where you can belt out protest songs and other politically charged numbers. (Wednesday, $5–$10)

7. It’s August, so we’re required to start wailing about how summer is almost over. Make it last a little longer at the Brooklyn Historical Society with the masters behind Van Leeuwen Ice Cream. (Thursday, FREE)

8. Pedal over to the Rooftop Films screening of the Swedish documentary Bikes vs. Cars, which looks at cycling activists from Copenhagen to São Paolo. (Thursday, FREE)

9. Walking is also a pretty stellar way to get around, so why not take in some local color with a Summer Stroll down Bay Ridge’s 3rd Ave? (Friday, FREE)

10. What better place to enjoy the end of summer (did we mention it’s the END OF SUMMER OMG) than aborad a boat? PortSide New York will invite folks aboard the historic tanker Mary A. Whalen this weekend for the first time in five years, kicking off the party with a Swiss flamenco jazz concert. (Friday, FREE)
