This weekend: Haunted houses, Steampunk Day, Brokedown Throwdown!

FRIDAY
1-5, 6-9pm (+10/22, 27-29, 31): the gravesend inn, the high-tech haunted hotel created by city tech’s resident theatrical troupe, opens for its 12th year of tours at 186 jay st, brooklyn, $5

6-9pm: 100+ artists show their spaces the chasama open studio party. bonus: free food and music. brooklyn army terminal, sunset park, free (rsvp).

8pm (+10/22): tiny theater = theater / dance / dance-theater / puppet-theater / object-theater / installation that takes place in a 6′ x 6′ x 6′ space—in under 10 mins each. the brick, $18.

thru 10/27: williamsburg’s fornino celebrates 7 years with $7 margarita pizzas

SATURDAY
2pm: cookie tasting, demo, and brooklyn brew at author stacey admiando’s cookiepedia book event. the brooklyn kitchen, free (rsvp).

6-9pm: new york kitchen presents an evening of food, photography and a silent auction to benefit non-profit organization share our strength. 411 gallery at digital plus (brooklyn), free.

7pm: liam mceneaney’s ‘tell your friends’ comedy night moves to union hall for a special cmj show with todd hanson (the onion), kurt braunohler (‘hot tub’) and glenn wool. $3 adv, $5 door.

8pm: observatory’s halloween/day of the dead costume party features new episodes of ghoul a go-go and the midnight archive, plus burlesque, music, a piñata, food + drink specials (decorate your own sugar skull!), and a costume contest. $12.

SUNDAY
12-8pm
: look for retro-futuristic costume inspiration at the fourth annual steampunk day and fashion show. dumbo loft (155 water st), $5 admission.

3-7pm: brokelyn’s sisters and brothers-in-cheap throw a brokedown throwdown: a ‘yo momma so broke’ joke and budget costume contest, mustache rides (?!), as seen on tv prizes, more. bonus: an open bar 3-4pm gets your afternoon started right! public assembly, $5.

4-8pm: bring your skillz and appetite to the carve for farms pumpkin carving contest and fall foods fest. $12 sugg. don. benefits just food’s hurricane relief fund and gets you a pumpkin, tools to work with and pointers. pumpkin pierogies, pumpkin muffins, autumnal drinks, more available for purchase. warsaw (greenpoint).

5-8pm: this isn’t your boxed, powdered cheese variety: try out cheesy pasta delicacies at the second annual mac-off mac + cheese fundraiser at huckleberry bar. free to compete, $10 to judge + eat.
