This weekend: Derby ball, St. Patrick’s day, all-ginger burlesque

FRIDAY
7pm: musician/author and former soul coughing leader mike doughty discusses his book the book of drugs: a memoir at book court, free

8pm: new skaters get assigned to their teams at the gotham girls roller derby annual blow-out: the derbytaunt ball. free brooklyn brewery beer 8-9pm (while supplies last), $4 mixed sailor jerry cocktails and $2 sailor jerry shots all night long. littlefield, $15. 

arrive 8-8:30pm (+ 3/23, 24): centralia: six stories + six cocktails: encounter the characters who refuse to leave centralia, pa, while exploring the brooklyn lyceum in ugly rhino’s interactive theatrical experience. $25 ticket includes six cocktail creations.

9pm: ema, talk normal and nu sense play the music hall of williamsburg, $15.

10pm: the freaks come out at night for the rub’s classic hip hop dance party housewarming at the bell house, $10.

SATURDAY
where you can get robicelli’s car bomb, sixpoint brownstone, irish coffee, and soda bread cupcakes in brooklyn and manhattan.

12pm (+ 3/18): mix some vodka or kahlua with your selections from an all-you-can-eat sugar cereal bar while watching episodes of cartoons from the 60s-90s at a st. patrick’s day-themed ‘spoons, toons, + booze’ viewing party. nitehawk, $11.

2-8pm: tip your hat and a few glasses ($4 well, drafts, and wine make it easy) at greenpoint’s veronica people’s club closing bash.

4-8pm: you’ll always know what street your on (until the shots kick in) as nine williamsburg bars keep you in line at the patrick’s day grand street pub crawl. put some free bbq in your belly at bushwick country club while you’re at it.

8pm: st. patty’s day is for sinners—and gingers—at an all-redhead edition of wasabassco burlesque. plus: a best emerald-underwear contest! bell house, $10 (redheads get in free!).

8pm: the string orchestra of brooklyn’s second annual string theories concert presents new experimental works by innovative artists at st. ann and the holy trinity church, 157 montague st. (brooklyn heights). $15 admission includes a free reception following the concert.

8pm: greg barris’s ‘heart of darkness’ comedy night at union hall features dave hill, joe mande and musical guest aerial east. union hall, $8 adv, $10 dos.

9pm-late (dance class 9:30pm): swing to 11-piece hot jazz ensemble aaron johnson and his golden age orchestra while you wear your gatsby-era best at gemini + scorpio’s swing house 4th anniversary blowout. rsvp for gowanus address, $15 + theme dress required until 12am, $10 after for electro-swing afterparty.

11:30pm: french electronic dj/producer alan braxe plays brooklyn bowl, $10

SUNDAY
various times by borough: pay tribute to cyclists killed during the past year at the annual memorial ride and walk. free.

11am-4pm: celebrate buzzard day in brooklyn with all you can eat pancakes, games, a raffle and craft fair. brooklyn brainery, $12.

12:45pm: brooklyn’s own st. patrick’s day parade loops around prospect park west and 7th avenue between 15th street and garfield.

2pm: put on your walking shoes for frank jump’s fading ads of greenpoint walking tour and learn the area’s commercial past. we dare you to ask what ailment syrup of figs treats. meet at word, free.

8pm: six contestants compete for the crown at murray hill’s 10th annual lez pageant. knitting factory, $15 adv, $20 dos.

ALL WEEKEND
thru 7/8
(closed mon-tue): 300+ of keith haring’s sketchbooks, subway drawings, videos, works on paper, more (including many never seen in public) from 1978-1982 are on display at the first large scale exhibition to explore his early career. brooklyn museum, $12 sugg. don.
