Six months after Hurricane Sandy, Red Hook staple Sunny’s Bar is still shuttered, which sucks for everyone in the neighborhood, and for pretty much most breathing, thinking human beings capable of feeling love, too. But they’re doing their best to get back on their feet, launching an Indiegogo campaign and feting it with a May Day celebration/benefit at the Bell House in Gowanus.

The party costs $30 to attend (tickets here), and if you’ve got extra cash to burn, VIP tickets run $60 and will get you prime seating for the festivities. Local performers like the Red Hook Ramblers, Li’l Mo and the Monicats, The Luna Sisters and John Pinamonti will take the stage. And though tickets are a bit hefty, the cash will go to a good cause – Sunny’s owners have been working day after day to put in a new boiler, hot water heater, electrical wiring and other technical wares that were destroyed in last year’s storm, and now they’ve got to find a way to fund extensive work that needs to go down in their formerly-flooded basement if they want to open their doors to us soon.

Today’s festivities kick off at 7pm, but if you can’t make it, toss some cash to their Indiegogo. Red Hook will thank you.
