Well here is strange and exciting news: Sleater-Kinney have officially announced new tour dates, which include December stops at the Kings Theatre, Terminal 5, Irving Plaza, the Music Hall of Williamsburg, and, improbably, the shuttered-but-reopening Market Hotel in Bushwick. We do not know why or how that last one happened, but we are not complaining.
For those who don’t know, Market Hotel was a DIY space at the Bushwick/Bed-Stuy border that closed in 2010 after the cops raided the obviously-illegal venue during a Smith Westerns show. Since then they’ve been trying to spruce up the joint and open it on the up-and-up, even throwing a surprise private Ava Luna show in January.
Cut to Monday, and a cryptic series of photos on Sleater-Kinney’s Facebook page that included a view of the Myrtle-Broadway stop. Some sly foxes in the comments deduced that it was indeed a photo from inside the Market Hotel:
“BUT WHAT COULD IT MEAN?” we all wondered for a second before realizing exactly what it meant. The band confirmed it Tuesday on their website, as did the venue itself with its own oddly-unspecific tweet announcing the on-sale date:
Hello, we’ll be selling tix tomorrow for a show in December. Some tix have been sold already, via a fan club, but bulk go on sale tomorrow.

[UPDATE: Per this second tweet, tickets for the show will go on sale on Friday, June 19, not on June 17]
Doh! Tickets will go on sale on Friday at 10am via TicketFly for the previously mentioned December 16th concert, *not* on sale tomorrow. 😉😉😉

Meanwhile, the venue’s Twitter account has been posting some updates on the venue’s construction, including this shot here of the stage:
So yeah, that is the sort of space we’re talking about here. It will likely sell out in minutes seconds, so keep your eye on the band’s website, the band’s Twitter account, the venue’s Twitter account, and anywhere and everywhere else. Basically do not stop looking at the internet for the next 24 hours or so.
Tickets for the rest of the shows go on sale June 19. Check out the full schedule below:
12/12 Kings Theatre
12/13 Terminal 5
