Think about all the great things that books and libraries have done for you in your life. Been there when no one else was. provided free, mind-expanding entertainment (provided you don’t miss the due date), provided a place to hide from bullies. Bushwick’s Mellow Pages Library does all that and they have beer-soaked literary gatherings. So since they’re in the midst of a fundraising drive, come out on Saturday to help give them a push, as Brokelyn writers talk about their love affair with books and you sip cheap beer.
Under the Covers: A Storytelling Fundraiser for Mellow Pages is Saturday night at 8pm, with all the money raised going towards Mellow Pages’ Indiegogo effort. Brokelyn writers Tim Donnelly, Karina Briski and David Colon will all tell short stories about how books changed our lives, as will Mellow Pages co-founder Jacob Perkins. And not only that, there will be beer. And not only that, but after listening to our stories, stick around and have the chance to take 2 minutes to preach the gospel of your favorite book to the assembled masses..
Mellow Pages is part of what makes Bushwick a “literary mecca” in the eyes of so many, and the space is too nice to see sit empty of books and the people who love them. So if you can’t make it on Saturday, consider tossing some cash to their Indiegogo. And just think, if you do come on Saturday night, you can tell me how wrong I am about Haim.
