Dumbo’s bodega-flouting ‘artisanal mini mart’ closing after just 3 months, posts counter to Craigslist

Dumbo’s Superette opened less than three months at 145 Front St. but is already closing down. The upscale bodega, which definitively rejected its bodega identity, has posted its custom, Brooklyn-made retail counter on Craigslist.

“We are closing this location and only used the counter for five months,” the post says. The limestone and maple counter is priced at $3,500, cash only.

With Dumbo already well saturated with gourmet supermarkets (including Peas & Pickles, Foragers, and a number of well-stocked, choosey bodegas) and Two Trees set to open a full-sized supermarket on Front St. this year, it’s no surprise Superette didn’t thrive. The itsy bitsy shop was just 150-square-feet and served up items like small-batch salsa, soy chicharrones, and “farm to tortilla” tortillas.

Looks like even in death it refuses to be acknowledged as a bodega, self-identifying in its Craigslist post as a “Candy shop”.
