Boogie on down to Transportation Alternatives’ first-ever Bicyclists’ Ball

If you were too cool to go to your high school prom, congratulations on sticking to your story, but also, here’s your chance to make it all right by heading to the first-ever Bicyclists’ Ball (and Pedestrian Prom), hosted by Transportation Alternatives, the organization that supports cycling, walking, and public transportation in our fair city.

The fundraising event is on Thursday, August 14 from 7pm to 10pm, at Roulette (509 Atlantic Avenue, Boerum Hill), and will feature live music from Ikebe Shakedown, dancing, a silent auction, South African Hors d’oeuvres from Fort Greene favorite Madiba, and unlimited beer and wine to quench your thirst after all that boogying. If you choose to bike there, valets will be available on a first come, first serve basis, and don’t worry about getting sweaty in that fancy tux you won’t have to rent; dressing up to the fives is good enough with a casual dress code.

Let’s talk money, as this is a fundraiser: General admission is $25 for non-members, but if you want to start a membership with Transportation Alternatives, $40 will get you into the lobby and the party. Being of a member of TA has its own bag of perks, including a free gift upon joining, discounts on cycling gear, and the intoxicating schadenfreude you’ll enjoy knowing you’re angering at least one paranoid anti-cycling nutjob.

So if you’d like to help protect cyclists so that they can bike confidently on these congested streets, here’s the link to RSVP. It’s a pretty great deal, since you’ll be helping a good cause and make your money back in, once again, unlimited beer and wine, which is a lot! If you want it to be. We’ll see you, and eventually a double-vision of you, on the dance floor.
