We’ll have some new tax pointers to share in coming weeks, but here’s a quick tip: instead of paying high fees to get your return, The Brooklyn Cooperative credit union is offering free tax prep through tax day for federal and state returns. You qualify if you make less than $50,000, or are self-employed with expenses less than $10,000 (which, uh, definitely includes us). The service is at two locations: Bushwick, 315 Grove St., and Bed-Stuy: 1424 Fulton St. (check the site for hours). Don’t forget to review our tax tips for procrastinators and to stay tuned for more tips this year!

be sure to get your NY school tax rebate, went up to $115 this year! AND the “making work pay” tax credit which I got $400 from.
There’s also a city-wide list of free tax-prep sites (with more in BK). I think the income cap is $48K for these.
