Today in jobs: Fight for your right to library

Are you gonna let this kid down? Via Screwy Decimal.

As far as jobs go, you could spend a lot of time twisting your ethics into place to work a gig like Starbucks or American Apparel. But we can all probably agree that the Brooklyn Public Library is a pretty wholesome place of employment, what with all its efforts to bring free knowledge (and even cheap book printing) to the masses. As you know, the library’s budget is always in danger, so it’s hiring a Government Relations & Advocacy Manager, which is the person in charge of running the grassroots campaign to fight for the library’s budget (and much more). Other jobs are available too: including managing corporate giving and working with special student programs.

The other jobs include:

Manager of Corporate Giving,

Project Manager Brooklyn Connections,

Special Officer

Student Advisor.

The library’s benefits include:

-a variety of health plans such as GHI/Blue Cross and HMOs. The Library pays 80% to 100% of cost of health insurance (depending on your choice). We also provide great dental and optical benefits.

-minimum 3 weeks annual leave

-participation in the New York State Employee’s Retirement System (NYSERS) where employees contribute 3% of their gross salary

-Education Assistance Program for full-time active employees who are interested in continuing their education
