The Super Bowl is Sunday, and it’s an American holiday for which we rounded up 14 places in Brooklyn you can watch the game earlier today. But there are many legitimate reasons that you might not want to watch it that may or may not relate to watching grown men give each other brain damage to help sell trucks. The Super Bowl is also reason for the greatest counter programming in television history, the Puppy Bowl, which airs before the Super Bowl on the Animal Channel and is the opposite of a brain-injury causing sport.
Every year we get questions from the cord-cutting, non-football fans of Brooklyn looking for someone to escape the orgy of Super Bowl excitement and just find a place to watch puppies on a Sunday afternoon. Well this year, we finally found a place for you.
Prospect Heights bar Saint Catherine (which is in our Brooklyn Cocktail Book!) is having a Puppy Bowl party on Sunday to warm up for the big game, screening all the puppy on puppy tail-gating and the whole canine yards on its wall-sized projection screen. Plus, they’re showing the Kitty Halftime Show, which is better than Coldplay, because Coldplay sucks. The Kitty Halftime Show is described this year as being a kitten take over of San Francisco, with “a spree of cat-aclismic destruction as they paw across historic landmarks including the Golden Gate Bridge, Fisherman’s Wharf and infamous “Al-Cat-Raz.” What are you even gonna do, Chris Martin?
The Puppy Bowl starts at 3pm, which is during Saint Catherine’s happy hour, when well drinks are $4, wine is $6 and drafts are $2 off (the actual Super Bowl starts at 6:30pm).
The Saint Catherine is at 660 Washington Ave. in Prospect Heights.
[We’ll keep an eye out for more bars showing the Puppy Bowl and update this list if we find them!]
