A little while back, we told you that Crown Heights’ Roger That community garden was facing the prospect of being closed and replaced with some condos. They’re not just rolling over and giving up though. Instead, they’re having a benefit party Saturday to help fund their purchase the deed to the land so that Crown Heights can keep a little green space amidst all the new condos. What does the party mean for you? Oh, just a bunch of dancing and good times and raffle prizes.
The party, which will run you a $5 donation is going down on Saturday at 7pm at art gallery Shoestring Press (663 Classon Avenue). But, that donation goes towards a good cause, which again, is helping to buy the lot from the people who recently purchased it. Roger That is already in negotiations with the property owner, so this isn’t some pie in the sky hippie bullshit, this is actual brass tacks real estate.
Even if WAS hippie bullshit though, the party sounds fun, with music courtesy of DJ Stylus, an astronaut photo booth (!) and tons of raffle prizes for just $1 per ticket from awesome Brooklyn vendors and stores like Bicycle Roots, Hullabaloo Books, the Way Station, Wedge Cheese Shop. Plus, they’re even raffling off a Beer Book, which is priceless. Well OK, it’s actually $30, but the experiences the Beer Book will bring you, and the feeling of doing a good thing by buying some raffle tickets to win one, are priceless.
