Find your inner chef at NYC Dumpling Fest on September 24

Kids love dumplings. They also love learning new things and playing around in a kitchen. Here’s a chance to combine all three at the Chef One NYC Dumpling Fest, happening Sept. 24 from noon till 5pm in Sara D. Roosevelt Park (on East Houston Between Chrystie and Forsyth in Manhattan).

After all, the theme of this year’s fest is “There’s a chef in everyONE.” The cost of the event is $20, with 100 percent of those proceeds benefiting Food Bank for NYC, which provides 1.5 million meals to hungry New Yorkers each year.

You won’t just feel better about yourself, though. You can actually use this year’s event to become a better cook through activities like the Make Your Own Dumpling Class, as well as checking out new flavors and recipe ideas.

Tickets get you four tastings and entry in this year’s raffle, which will award winners with Delta Airlines tickets and a year’s supply of dumplings. With vegetarian and vegan options — and a table named after each of the five boroughs — this event is tailor made for dumpling-crazed New Yorkers.

Ever see someone eat 93 dumplings in two minutes? That’s the record. At this year’s 13th annual Dumpling Eating Contest, that mark may well be surpassed. ESPN broadcaster Larry Hardesty will be there to call the action, while YouTube stars Mike Chen and Dan Chen (hosts of Strictly Dumpling and Double Chen) will be the hosts for the day.

There will be plenty of entertainment on tap, too, with a performance by Yut and the Hot Four and a Lion Dance. Sponsors for the day include Bruce Cost Ginger Ale, Boxed Water and Harney & Sons. Chef One will also be rolling out new dumpling flavors that will soon be on shelves at ShopRite.
