Brooklyn Poetry: Charee Monroy

“Fig Tree”

Memories
Of rain
Still soak my clothes
The years
Without locks
Doors
Unable to open
Or close
Still come down on me
in drops
Throwing water
Off my shoulders
Sticks to my spine
There, a fig tree grows

Charee Monroy is a Brooklyn based interdisciplinary artist. She has exhibited her paintings in a number of Brooklyn’s galleries, performed in a number of theatres including Off-Broadway in From the Fire, and cooks a mean beef bourguignon.
