Good old anaonymous Tuesday is back, just where it always is between Monday and Wednesday. No one really ever has anything to say about Tuesday, which is kind of sad for the day, but then you think about it for a second and realize it’s early in the week so people would say something nasty about it. Especially if they hadn’t gotten a look at the Brokelyn Event Calendar and seen there was some pretty good stuff happening on any given Tuesday.
GIANT PEACH, ANCIENT SKY, FAMILY ROOM, NEVER
Music, you could use some music tonight to help you leave Monday in the dust and power your way through the rest of the week. Fortunately Giant Peach will be at the Union Pool with some friends, playing their driving and sometimes loud brand of indie rock. Plus the show is cheap, so you should still have some cash left over for tacos from the Union Pool taco truck. Dinner AND a show!
8pm, Union Pool, 484 Union Avenue, Williamsburg, $8
FNL PRESENTS: HIP HOP TRIVIA HOSTED BY DONWILL
Think you know hip hop? You probably think you do, considering you also think you’re cool and hip hop has been the biggest musical art form of the last thirty years. Prove you know the years of every major release from that time span, the people who produced them, and the artist who started a beef with Shaq over whether he wrote Shaq’s best lines for him (this really did happen) at Friends and Lovers’ first-ever night of hip hop trivia.
8pm, Friends and Lovers, 641 Classon Avenue, Crown Heights, FREE
MALLRATS – SPECIAL OUTDOOR SCREENING WITH BUZZFEED
Despite the fact that it was a commercial flop, you could make the case that Mallrats is the second-best Kevin Smith movie set in his Askewniverse after Clerks, provided you didn’t love Dogma and correctly understand Chasing Amy was bad. Either way, the movie that launched Jason Lee’s career and almost killed Smith’s is a fun, weird comic romp, and even better, Smith and Jason “Jay” Mewes will be in attendance to chat tonight before the movie is screened, so it sounds like a good night.
5pm, 50 Kent Avenue, Williamsburg, FREE
WET HOT BROOKLYN SUMMER – THE TALENT SHOW
So in case you missed the news about this one, I can go over it again real quick: A Wet Hot American Summer immersion in a lot in Bushwick, featuring free beer, activities like having a little cry, doing science experiments, arts and farts and crafts and finally a talent show hosted by someone playing Michael Showalter playing Alan Shemper. It’s the closest you’ll ever get to actually being in the movie, and that’s in part because it’s been put together and is being hosted by someone who was in the movie.
5:57pm, X Marks the Lot, 39 Knickerbocker Avenue, Bushwick, $23
BROOKLYN MEN’S COMEDY FESTIVAL
All this talk about Brooklyn women killing it in comedy, but what about the dudes? Has the world forgotten that men do comedy too? Rude. Haha, just kidding, of course the world hasn’t forgotten and of course we’re just crackin’ goofs and of course no one at this site wears a fedora (except Tim sometimes). That being said, comedians like Mike Abrusci, Victor Hernandez and Lucas Connolly should have some fun with the concept with tonight’s show, which promises to both “recharge your Zeus Energy” and “Unleash your Animal-Male.”
9pm, Muchmore’s, 2 Havemeyer Street, Williamsburg, FREE
See you event on these listings one day, put it on the Brokelyn Event Calendar (it’s free!)
