Black Rabbit Bar
91 Greenpoint Ave. (Manhattan Avenue & Franklin Street)
Greenpoint
718-349-1595

What is it: An old-world pub with a solid beer selection and a laid-back, friendly vibe that makes a great date spot.

Why we love it: The key feature of the bar is its classic wooden booths with swinging, saloon-style doors. Once inside, you can flip a light switch to signal for service. And they make great spots to cozy up with your date with some of the bar’s board games or snacks such as Frito Pie and mini cheeseburgers.

Who to bring: A date to woo in the booths or by the fireplace in the back, or the landscaped backyard garden; or bring a group to gather around the big tables for weekly Tuesday trivia.

What to order: The Welsh Rarebit Fondue is a house speciality; wash it down with one of the rotating craft beers such as Allagash White (though the house Black Rabbit brew is tasty as well).

Black Rabbit fun fact: Black Rabbit Bar was the site of the latest Improv Everywhere prank, 1860s Bar, where the bar got dressed up like an old saloon to fool some unsuspecting customers. It’s a kick to watch (and you can understand how easily the bar could be converted into one from the Civil War era.
