So we’re all in agreement that high rents will be the doom of us all. Still, you don’t have to lie down and take it, you just have to keep your eye out for the few scraps of affordable housing that are thrown to us. Like the four Williamsburg apartments at 59 Orient Avenue for $1000 that are taking applications. Yep, that’s right, Williamsburg living for $1000/month in a 1 or 2-bedroom apartment. Run, don’t walk to your email.
If you’re still reading this, which we’d understand you’re not if you just ran off to apply for an apartment, just know that the only downside to this is that your apartment will probably be haunted. But shit, who cares, you’ll have a 2-bedroom in Williamsburg for $1,036/month. Much, much better than that $3500 Williamsburg cabin.
To get one of the apartments, you’ll need to meet the income requirements (between $31,749 and $41,280 for the one-bedrooms, between $35,760 and $51,540 for the two-bedrooms) and apply for the apartments by February 28. And then, you wait, and hope that you have more luck than every other person applying for the apartments. We wouldn’t broadcast it too much if you win though, it probably isn’t safe out there for that kind of bragging.

Just an FYI – I live in this building, and it’s terribly insulated with electric heat. If the tenant is responsible for heat (as is the case in my unit) expect massive electric bills during the hottest and coldest months of the year.
That image has nothing to do with Orient Avenue.
If I win can I sublet it out for market price and keep my $1000 apt. in “uncoolville”?
Good luck everyone
