Bicycle! Bicycle! Bicycle! It must have been May in New York when Freddie Mercury wrote “Bicycle Race.” Why? Because it’s Bike Month! That means dozens of free bike-related events, including classes, casual rides and even a killer 145-mile tour throughout the city and Long Island. The two-wheeled celebration begins 10 am this Saturday with the Five Boro Bike Fest at BK Bridge Park. It features live music, bike expos, classes and the largest cycling event in North America: the TD Bank Five Boro Bike Tour. And since you’re hearing about it here, you know it’s free! There’s lots more free pedal-pusher outings too:
The rest of the month is filled tons of events happening all over the city. Brooklyn’s range from beginner classes, like the Bicycling Basics courses (free) held throughout the month at Brooklyn Bridge Park, to long rides, like the Five Borough Bicycle Club’s 40-mile guided bike tour (also free) of Brooklyn’s lesser known neighborhoods. What we’re looking forward to? The Bike Brooklyn Beer Blitz! ($25, includes one beer), a historial tour of Brooklyn breweries’ past.
Check out Bike Month NYC and NYC’s Department of Parks and Recreation for the full, dizzying list of activities and tons more information. And keep an eye out for fat-bottomed girls.
