How do you know it’s still summer, even as your Twitter feed is full of people pushing “adorable kids going back to school” propaganda? Simple: People are still willing to go outside and clean their neighborhoods. Once fall and winter hits, that trash can wait until spring. You can be one of those people, and get yourself a free lunch from some of Greenpoint’s best eateries, if you volunteer to pick up some litter with Curb Your Litter: Greenpoint this weekend.
This Saturday, September 12, the Greenpoint Chamber of Commerce, Neighbors Allied for Good Growth and Greening Greenpoint are gathering a crew of volunteers at the Greenpoint Reformed Church (136 Milton Street) at 10am, and sending them around northwest Greenpoint to pick up trash and clean up the tree beds in the area. In exchange for your work in the two-hour cleanup period from 11am to 1pm, you get to eat lunch provided by Adelina’s, Cachaco, Cup & Compass, Esme, and Jungle Cafe, which means free pizza and vegan grub and bodega food for you.
If this whole “clean up Greenpoint in exchange for free lunch” thing sounds familiar, that’s because it’s happened before this summer. Maybe you missed it because you were at the beach, maybe you were camping, maybe you just wanted to have a day where you went outdoor drinking. Whatever the reason, you’ve got another chance to do a good deed and be rewarded by both the good deed but more importantly, food.
