Ah CBGB, the historic NYC brand that even high school students at a Hot Topic in Munson, Indiana know about thanks to those ubiquitous T-shirts. It’s one of those places that was undeniably packed to the walls with Punk Rock history but had faded into stale over-exposure in its last years like so much Mars Bar. The venue closed in 2006 and now the brand is attempting a big comeback with the first CBGB Festival, which is bringing hundreds of artists to 30 venues in Manhattan and Brooklyn from July 5-8, including Guided By Voices, Superchunk, David Johansen (of the New York Dolls!), Cro-Mags, Cloud Nothings, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Agnostic Front, Superchunk and many more. Passes to the music cost $80, but you can get into the whole shebang for free if you volunteer to take photos. Details below.
Via Reddit:
We are looking for about 30 amateur photographers to get some good shots of the bands playing. You will be compensated with a t-shirt, a free pass to all concerts in the festival ($90), and free entry into the closing party/whiskeyfest ($80).
A deluxe festival pass will be given to photographers with good credentials and experience ($380)
To apply, message this person on Reddit with what type of camera you have. 21 and over only too, btw.
The fest also includes a bunch of music panels and film screenings, a la CMJ and Northside. Krist Novoselic of Nirvana is the keynote speaker of the music conference part.
