As you know, Citi Bike is coming to Red Hook, Gowanus, Park Slope, Cobble Hill and Carroll Gardens. However, the clunky blue bikes don’t just magically appear, as if summoned there by a wizard. The placement of the bikes involves a good bit of community planning, and if you wan to be part of that planning, tonight’s your night, because the Department of Transportation is inviting everyone down to P.S. 58 to give their opinions on where the bikes should go.
Now, it’s too late for you to show up and stop the big blue spread of Citi Bikes entirely, so if you’re looking to do that, you should probably change your plan. But at tonight’s planning sessions at PS 58 (330 Smith Street) at 7pm and 8pm will at least allow you to have a little input on where you think the least obtrusive places are for the stations.
DOT will be taking community input, and they also said they have a few places in mind already that they’d like to run by the fine folks of Community Board 6. So if you love a piece of sidewalk or have a favorite parking spot or think you know the perfect place to put the stations so the bikes will be used, gather your courage to talk to strangers and the government and head on over. After all, it’d be terrible for another community to be torn apart by bike share.
