We love our tipsters (except when they don’t tell us they’re business owners posing as ecstatic customers). Today, one of our regulars—Yolanda Solomon—tells us about a $1 breakfast option at the Key Food on Fifth Avenue and Sterling:
Remember when you could get a cup of coffee in brooklyn for 50 cents? The Park Slope Key Food has a vending machine by the cash registers that sells 50 cent cups of coffee with varying flavors (french vanilla, mocha, regular etc.). And right next to the coffee machine they are peddling 50-cent packs of oatmeal for that you can toss in a cup and use the hot water from the machine to make. That’s breakfast for a dollar!! Holler!!
Thanks, Yolanda, for a most miserly way to start the day. If you’ve got a scoop, please send it to tips [at] brokelyn [dot] com. If we publish it, you qualify for a free Brokelyn t-shirt.

$1 Breakfast for me too — 50cent bagel with cream cheese and 50cent coffee at the Bodega on East 53rd Street and Clarkson Avenue in East Flatbush. The bagel is no “New York” bagel by any stretch of the imagination, but it gets the job done.
