Just when SummerScreen and the East River Park movie series both ran their course and Williamsburg residents were facing the prospect of having to go somewhere else to see free outdoor movies, Nitehawk has stepped up and made sure they didn’t need to travel. Starting next Tuesday and running on two Tuesdays in September, Nitehawk will be showing movies at Havemyer Park, for free, with live musical accompaniment.
Nitehawk will be setting up at the park next Tuesday, August 20, at 6:30pm for a screening of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, which for the uninitiated is NOT a documentary about where your mom works (nailed ittt). The screening will be proceeded by a short concert by Dolly Parton cover band Doll Parts, and like we said above, is completely free.
Then, Nitehawk will be back in the park in September with screening of 100% accurate depiction of America’s legal system Chicago on September 10, preceded by a concert from the Dreamland Orchestra. Then the following Tuesday with cinematic depiction of the corrupting influence of wealth on the human psyche Goldfinger on September 17, that will have a pre-screening concert by Morricone Youth.
Just in case you get hungry or thirsty, you’ll be able to stuff your face with Nitehawk’s popcorn, chicken from Brooklyn Star and ice cream from Odd Fellows. And then wash it down with beer from Brooklyn Brewery. RSVP if you want, but seating is first come, first serve, so prepare to sell out your friends to get a seat. So uh, is Two Trees aware they’re making it harder and harder for people to eventually give this park up?
