Lotteries open for South Slope and Sunset Park units under $1,050/month

The year is barely begun and already two affordable housing lotteries are open in Brooklyn, accepting the hopes and dreams of the masses into the pool of lease yearners and affordability desirers.

The first, which opened to applications yesterday, is in a brand spankin’ new development in Bed-Stuy at 869 Park Ave., where nine one-bedrooms are renting for $985/month – 60 percent of the area’s median income. The nine units will be renting to one- and two-person households making between $33,772 and $45,840 annually.

The building is located across the street from Woodhull Hospital and a little over a block from the M, J, and Z Flushing Ave. stop. The Myrtle-Willoughby G station is a short walk away. Bonus building features, also known as amenities, include an elevator and, for additional fees, fitness center and laundry room. Listing photos of the apartments are moderately bougie, and a roof deck is also shown. The building is smoke-free.

Applications are being accepted through January 26.

The second lottery is listed as being in Sunset Park, Park Slope, and Gowanus, but with an address of 198 19th St., it’s pretty definitively in South Slope. Also new construction, the building boasts a roof deck, gym/recreation room, and washer/dryer in every unit. There are six units up for grabs: three one-bedrooms, renting for $1,035/month, and three two-bedrooms, renting for $1,175/month. One- to four-person households making from $35,486 to $57,240 annually are eligible. The building is located a few blocks from the D, N, and R Prospect Av station.

Applications are being accepted through January 29.

A portion of units in both buildings will be set aside for applicants with mobility, vision, or hearing disabilities and preference for half the units will go to municipal employees and current residents of the areas’ respective community boards – Brooklyn Community Board 7 in South Slope, and Brooklyn Community Board 3 in Bed-Stuy.

As always, there’s no broker’s fee nor application fee – just apply through NYC Housing Connect.
