Is the Next Big Small Brand in your kitchen?

salsaIt’s time to perfect the pickles, simplify the salsa, finalize the flourishes in that artisanal apple-crumb shake you’ve been pawning off on your friends for months now. It’s time for The Next Big Small Brand, the contest where edible dreams become fully-marketed, branded realities. In its second year, the culinary contest is looking for a new crop of home chefs, bakers, mixologists and other culinary creators to submit their food product or concept for a chance to win a full design and marketing campaign, dedicated PR and priceless exposure to the tasting-public. Last year, these guys became a house-hold name. Do you have the right stuff?

Submit a fully-formed product or almost-there concept and it’ll go before a panel of judges that includes Michael Anthony, Executive Chef of Gramercy Tavern; Eric Demby, Co-Founder of the Brooklyn Flea; Carla Lalli Music, Deputy Editor of Martha Stewart’s Everyday Food Magazine and other high-powered members of the NY food, design and marketing communities. The contest is run by the uber-pros at the Rooster Design Group, who’ll be the ones to design and launch the winning brand.

The contest doesn’t open until Oct. 4, so you’ve got a couple weeks to prepare and tailor your submission with these criteria in mind: taste (if edible), presentation, uniqueness, marketability and demand. The judges will be looking for “entrants who embody the spirit of entrepreneurialism and exhibit professionalism and enthusiasm for their product or concept.” There you have it.

Again, submissions open Oct. 4 (through Nov. 11), and a winner will be crowned after several exhaustive rounds at a live event before the judges on Jan. 12. All the application, contest and prize details are here.
