Eat out for less thanks to Black-Owned Restaurant Month

You’ve got a whole month to get acquianted with Sweet Science’s shrimp and grits, for less. via I Don’t Do Clubs

If there’s one thing we can get behind without hesitation around here, it’s the city’s many themed restaurant weeks. Well, except for the actual Restaurant Week which has a terrible history of short-changing Brooklyn. However, Caribbean Restaurant Week? Grand Street Restaurant Week? Italian or Russian Weeks? Yes to all of those. Now there’s a new restaurant week in town that’s here to make eating out an affordable experience, except it’s even better than usual because it’s lasting a whole month. Let’s all welcome and throw money at Black-Owned Restaurant Month, which offers $35 three-course meals in September and is looking like the only good thing about summer turning into fall (unless the Mets hold on and make the playoffs).

From September 9 to September 30, every restaurant participating in Black-Owned Restaurant Month will offer three-course prix fixe meals for $35 on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Yep, a whole month of three course meals that even you, the humble brokester can afford to eat. The month-long celebration of black-owned restaurants and cheap eating is being put on by I Don’t Do Clubs, an events website organization for black professionals who…don’t like clubs.

Of course, whether you like clubs or not, it’s always a good idea to check out new restaurants when the stakes are lower than usual, and that’s exactly what’s going down in September. Brooklyn has 7 spots represented in the restaurant month, and helpfully, every restuarant has their menus laid out already on the website. So whether you’re in the mood for something like the shrimp and grits from Sweet Science (seen above) or sliders and cheesecake from Therapy Wine Bar (don’t forget their wine happy hour either) or even for eating somewhere that isn’t in Brooklyn, you’re set for a whole month.
