Before we were talking about The Bike Lobby making inroads to Red Hook and Park Slope with a Citi Bike expansion, everyone had been talking about their reinforcing land they already held, by expanding in neighborhoods that already had Citi Bike. Namely Williamsburg and Bed-Stuy, and a whole new neighborhood that’s ideologically inclined with them with the addition of Greenpoint. That one was a long time ago so you may have forgotten about it, but now if you open your Citi Bike app you see a bunch of gray dots. Those new gray dots, according to Streetsblog, are the exact spots where the new Citi Bike stations are going to be put in.
Most of the expansion is focused on Williamsburg and Greenpoint, a key position held by The Bike Lobby in the The Car Wars. They’ll be reinforcing this territory there by surrounding McCarren Park, and also appear to be seizing territory running north to south from the eastern edges of Williamsburg, Bed-Stuy and Greenpoint. This leaves them well-positioned for an overwhelming eastward push into Bushwick, at least after their southwest territory grabs coming up sometime in 2016.
Per Streetsblog, the exact opening of these new Citi Bike outposts isn’t yet known, but they theorized that they would begin opening sometime this summer. It’s unknown how the forces of Cars will react to this new movement, but we imagine that it will be the same way they always have (killing with almost complete impunity).
