Can work for food: CSA Next Door Organics looking for volunteers

CSAs. So hot right now. Unfamiliar with the term? CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture, and like Guy Fieri’s factory farm-to-table philosophy, is yet another way for you to feel less guilty about where your food comes from. Each week, you pick up a bag of groceries full of locally sourced vegetables, bread, eggs and cheese, just to name a few. Next Door Organics is a CSA that primarily serves Williamsburg, Bed-Stuy and Bushwick, and they’re looking for a few volunteers to help move things along at their main hub. And in return, you get delicious food!

Someone has to pack the bags full of food before they get brought to pickup locations, obviously, so Next Door Organics is looking for some people to volunteer for that job. And for every two hours you put in at NDO, you’ll earn a $30 credit towards that week’s bag of groceries. And seeing as how they have plans ranging from $25 to $50 per week, four hours of sorting bags could get you a ridiculous amount of food.

They’re especially looking for help Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays, so if you aren’t frequently and hellishly hungover on weekends (which uh, is why we won’t be doing it), this could be a good opportunity for you, the cash-strapped foodie.

This was a pleasant surprise to wake up to this morning!! So glad to help share CSA with everyone! Our hub, where the packing will happen, is in BedStuy, but we do have pickups all over Brooklyn and lower Manhattan, too. Thanks so much for sharing!
