Finally, a race for those of us who’d rather do homework than play dodgeball. This Friday marks the first Moby Dick Marathon, a three-day reading of the Herman Melville classic taking place in three bookstores, two boroughs, and including over 100 readers.
The Marathon will be held at Word in Greenpoint, Housing Works Bookstore in SoHo, and Molasses Books in Bushwick and will feature Sarah Vowell and Paul Dano as readers. There’s an opening reception at Word at 5pm on Friday and the reading begins directly afterward. The event commemorates the anniversary of the novel’s publication in the United States on November 14, 1851. And it’s totally free! Sounds like a great place to find your winter’s bone.
