Sure, Bushwick might be the anointed Neighborhood of Art right now, but don’t think the only artists in Brooklyn live off the L train. Gowanus has its fair share of artists, too, and they’ve been holding their own Open Studios events for the past decade and a half: tonight, the Bell House is hosting a free kickoff party and meeting for GOS, and they’re inviting everyone to show up and participate.
This year, GOS will run from October 18th to 20th, and will feature studio tours and performances brought to you by artists and creatives from all around the Gowanus Canal area. Tonight’s party is the first major planning event, and it’ll give you the opportunity to network and share your work with some other artsy types, plus you’ll get first dibs on cool volunteer gigs, discounted early registration to GOS and a sneak preview of what the weekend’s going to offer. The preview party kicks off at 7pm tonight, so RSVP on the event’s Facebook page, and start brainstorming for ways to rival Bushwick Open Studios, in an epic North vs. South Brooklyn battle. JUST KIDDING LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR.
