Whether you think pancakes are the best, heartiest way to start your day or you fall more on the Hedbergian side of the debate and think they’re good but a bit of a slog, Americans can all agree on one thing: not paying for pancakes is much better than paying for them. So in that spirit of “Give us the pancakes for free, dammit,” tomorrow is the 10th annual National Pancake Day, or as it’s more commonly known, Free Pancake Day. Show up, get a short stack and head into your day in a buttermilk and syrup-soaked haze. Which can’t be that different from your normal Tuesday, right?
The details are the same as they always are: you show up and get a free short stack (3 pancakes) of buttermilk pancakes at your local IHOP. Or travel to one, no rule against it. All they ask in return is that you donate some money to their fundraising efforts for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, which seems fair. Oh also don’t forget to tip your waiter, he’s still bringing the pancakes over to you.
There are a few IHOPs in New York City, and despite the fact that Brooklyn lost its Downtown location, we still have three to choose from. You can go to either Bushwick (785 Flushing Avenue), Flatlands (1100 Flatlands Avenue) or East New York (2101 Ralph Avenue) for your free pancake fix if you don’t wanna leave Brooklyn. Just remember that free pancakes are always a popular item, so there’ll probably be a bit of a wait for them no matter where you go.
