Out in the Streets brings rock n roll crowds to a bucolic setting in Ridgewood.
Summer festival season is in full swing and we’re pretty much spoiled this year, as we always are when it comes to music (sorry, mid-sized cities everywhere). We’ve had a bunch of festivals big and small pull through town already and this weekend we’re getting another one that’s one of the chillest, locally grown outdoor fests around.
Out in the Streets fest this weekend takes place on two acres of park land in Ridgewood, with a spectacular view of Manhattan, lush gardens, a bonfire pit, historic sites and a lineup of some of our favorite bands from Brooklyn and beyond: The So So Glos, Frankie Rose, Beverly, Potty Mouth and many more! Two-day passes start at $38, but we’ve got two pairs of passes just for you! Find out how to enter below. (more…)
Brokelyn and the NYC Beach Bus want you to never worry about getting to the beach again. Via Facebook.
On this Fourth of July weekend, we don’t have a European Union to declare independence from (and then immediately regret declaring independence from). But let us propose another thing to liberate yourself from: The tyranny of worrying how to get to the beach for the rest of the summer.
We will gladly help you in this revolution, because we’re giving away a season pass to the NYC Beach Bus! The bus is our favorite way to get to the the beaches in Rockaway, Jacob Riis Beach plus Fire Island and Robert Moses Beach. It’s easy to win: All you’ve got to do to enter is take an Instagram, which you’ll probably be doing this weekend anyway. (more…)
You are going to make so many new friend-sicles. via Facebook
Just this past Friday, we told you a catlady craft night was coming to Brooklyn. And while you were Sunday brunching, something magical happened: Brokelyn got its hands on on two shiny tickets to Brooklyn Craft Company’s feline affair — and naturally, we’re giving them away to one lucky reader!
ICYMI in our last post, Catlady Craft Night is a themed DIY crafting party for cat-lovers. Projects will include cat rings, tote bags, needlepoint and more, as well as a kitty-cuddling and adoption lounge hosted by Brooklyn Animal Action. You can socialize with your fellow catladies alongside cocktails and music (Careless Whiskers, anyone?). All crafting materials are provided.
This is a pretty sweet giveaway, since the tickets are valued at almost $200. All you’ve got to do to enter is sign up for our mailing list between now and midnight on Thursday. We’ll pick a name by lottery and announce the winner first thing on Friday. (more…)

Ana Metronic is MC’ing what will be a rikikulous party.
Times are still tough for LGBTQ youth out there, yes, even after all those “It Gets Better” videos and yes even in New York City, the land of the Big Gay Ice Cream Truck. The folks over at the Manhattan-based Hetrick-Martin Institute know this, which is why they offer programs to help create a safe environment for young people, regardless of sexual orientation. Next Friday, they’re throwing a fundraiser at Littlefield that also happens to be a heckuva party: not only is it hosted by Ana Matronic of the Scissor Sisters (she of the famously infectious “Let’s Have a Kiki” video), but it also features Le Tigre’s JD Samson, with her new band JD Samson and MEN, and lots more too. Tix are $30, but we’ve got a pair to giveaway bere. Details below: (more…)
