You’d be smiling too if you were Brooklyn’s official herald of the summer

When you look out you window and see the snow right now, it might be hard to think of summer. Buck up though, because a herald of warmth has just landed in our inbox, announcing the opening night performance at this year’s Celebrate Brooklyn. Following in the footsteps of last year’s soulful opener Janelle Monae, this year we’re getting a free show from Chaka Khan.

The first Celebrate Brooklyn show of the year will be on June 3, with the doors opening at 6:30pm. Whether you know Chaka Khan as the Queen of Funk and a Grammy-winning artist or the person who provided the sample for “Through the Wire,” you can now officially start fantasizing about sitting on some lush green grass in jorts and a basketball jersey or in a sundress and enjoying a free show before going back to your apartment and complaining about your lack of air conditioning.
