Following the great success of their last benefit discount tattoo event, Party to Protect is back with another day of cheap tats and performances in the name of benefiting a cause the Trump administration is opposed to: The well-being of the Earth.
Tattoo to Protect the Planet for Earthjustice will set up its pop-up salon at the same venue as last time, Greenpoint’s Magick City at 37 Box St., with $60 black ink only flash sheet tattoos available from noon to 6pm privy four artists from Williamsburg’s Magic Cobra Tattoo Society on Tuesday, April 25. All proceeds will go to Earthjustice, a nonprofit organization devoted to representing environmental cases pro bono, “because the Earth needs a good lawyer.” (more…)

(UPDATED 2/3 with final flash sheet above.) Among less positive developments, the first month of 2017 has seen some of the most creative Planned Parenthood benefits of all time, and now a discounted female-empowerment tattoo pop-up salon is joining that list.
The event, Tattoo to Protect Your Parts: A Planned Parenthood Affair, is happening Feb. 8 at Greenpoint’s Magick City. It’s a combination tattoo pop-up and dance party, where you can choose from $40 flash sheet tattoos, all designed with a feminist aesthetic by artists at Williamsburg’s Magic Cobra Tattoo Society, with all the proceeds going to Planned Parenthood. Offered on a first-come, first-served basis; you can see some of the designs above and the flash sheet’s final 20 designs will be posted on the Party to Protect Facebook page prior to the event. We go out of our way to save some money, but even we must admit there are those things that a person should not scrimp on. Invasive medical procedures is a wonderful example. Also, tattoos. Tattoos are forever (or for-until-you-can-afford-laser-removal) and, as such, shouldn’t be something you make decisions about based on today’s Groupon. We’ve heard some awesomely bad tattoo stories and here are a few. Recall these cautionary tales the next time that “Become A Work Of Art For As Little As $50” ad shows its face on your Facebook side bar. We love tattoos and we love saving money, we’re just not sure the two should ever occupy the same thought space. (more…)
This is a good month for cheap major life decisions! Friday the 13th must be a holiday in tattooville, and our friends at Gristle Tattoo are celebrating by offering a bunch of designs for just $13. That’s cheaper than like two beers! Both shop artists Brittany and Ashley will be offering it: Ashley Thomas is a particular friend of the site, having recently inked up two Team Brokelyn members, so we can vouch for her. And she specializes in all-vegan tattoos (which, yes, is a thing— most tattoos contain animal products, read up!). Gristle is at 178 N 8th St., in Williamsburg. Ashley’s flash sheet is to the left, Brittany’s is below. (more…)

FACT: Halloween is the best holiday in all of New York City, due to the sheer glut of parties, events, pageantry and the general aura of mischief found city wide at the end of October. So to add to the spirit of strange times, Sara Antoinette, an apprentice at Brooklyn Tattoo on Smith Street, is offering special $31 Halloween tattoos throughout the whole month of October on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. You have to pick a design from the sheet to the left, and can make an appointment by calling 718.643.1610 or by emailing sara.antoinette[at]gmail.com. Frightened? Don’t be: you can see Sara’s other work.
