An app called Uber is hoping to let you digitally hail and pay for taxis with your smartphone, which could presumably make your life easier if you’re the kind of person who takes cars places. Sounds great, but taxi officials aren’t quite sure if the whole thing is legal yet. Which actually works out in your favor, because while they’re figuring that out, Uber is offering free rides through the app from today through Sept. 11, up to $25. Just download and hail a cab through the app and your ride will be free. Good timing too, seeing as taxi rates just went up this week. [Via Beta Beat]
