Our brief respite from real fall weather is just about over, and it’s starting to get into layer weather and heavy coat weather. So you’re thinking about putting your bike away for the season, except for maybe a freak warm February day. You don’t have to ride the subway everywhere if you don’y want to though! Next week, any bike riding lady who wants to get some instructions on how to pedal through the wind and snow or keep her bike in one piece during the winter can, at one of four free cycling classes for women coming to Brooklyn.
Between Sunday, November 15 and Saturday, November 21, female cyclists will be able to get educated at four different classes sponsored by Get Women Cycling, Citi Bike, Ride Brooklyn and Mr. C’s Cycles. On November 15, Bed-Stuy Restoration Center (1368 Fulton Street) will host a class from 11am to 1pm on the best ways to commute in cold weather. That class will also be focusing on Citi Bike though, so if you’d rather step out of the bike share system, there’s a class on November 17 from 7pm to 9pm at Mr. C’s Cycles (4622 7th Avenue) on the best gear to wear while biking through the cold, as well as bike prep and maintenance tips to help you deal with the inevitable shit like dirty snow and rock salt that gets kicked up into your bike in the winter.
On November 19, at 11am, noon, 5pm, 6pm and 7pm, Ride Brooklyn (468 Bergen Street) will hold an indoor riding session and go over some bike basics if you’re not in the know. If you are and want some friends to ride with, or you want to put your new knowledge to the test, you can join a group ride from Sunset Park to Williamsburg leaving from Mr. C’s Cycles on November 21 at 10am. Beyond testing out your street skills, the ride is also being put together to introduce riders to businesses GWC has found to be bike-friendly, and that’s always a good thing considering how many lunatics are out there. So, go make some bike friends, and if you forget anything, don’t worry: we’ve got you covered.
