Shop small: all the local holiday markets you need to know this holiday season

Do you want to give special, locally made and thoughtful gifts this year? We think that’s a good idea. And the best place to look for great gifts is at small businesses. So, why not check out a holiday market or two or three? Shopping small is the best way to find a gift that will surely put a smile on your nearest and dearest’s face. And, you’re supporting local artisans, designers, and business owners instead of faceless big box stores. Score!

Here are our favorite holiday markets to shop at this season.

Greenpointers Polar Vortex Holiday Market, 67 West Street (5th Floor)
Sunday, December 2 1-7pm
Browse 60+ local artisans and vendors for delightful wares, stunning jewels, and other treasures. Plus, there are winter-themed drinks and loads of free activities.

SO Holiday Shoppe Object Marketplace, The Landing at Industry City, 274 36th Street
Saturday, Dec. 1 and Sunday, Dec. 2, 10am-7pm
SHOPPE OBJECT will take over two floors of Industry City for the launch of SO HOLIDAY, and you check of your to-buy list if you’re lookign for ceramics, jewelry, tabletop, stationery, and more.

The Oddities Flea Market
Brooklyn Bazaar, 150 Greenpoint Avenue
December 1-2; 12– 6pm
Go dark and macabre. Explore vendors with an array of peculiar items including ephemera, anatomical curiosities, natural history items, obscure specimens, taxidermy, home decor, jewelry, dark art, and more.

Brooklyn Navy Yard Holiday Market, Building 77, 141 Flushing Avenue
Saturday, December 1 and Sunday, December 2, 12pm-6pm
Browse more than 30 Navy Yard tenants and nearby small businesses offering a vast array of gift options including clothing, accessories, art, home décor, children’s toys, and culinary products. Plus, there will be a gift-wrapping station, a toy drive, and a coat drive supporting New York Cares. (Don’t forget to bring your coats for donation!)

A 40,000-square-foot space between the Brooklyn Museum and the Brooklyn Botanic Garden boasts shopping, entertainment, and activities. More than 50 vendors will sell their wares ranging from food to decorations and more.
