Reason number 32,643 to love Barack Obama—one of his Recovery Act-funded jobs is a “community planner” for the Gateway National Recreation Area. That sounds like one of those plum gigs you can only get in, like, San Francisco. But through June 30, you can actually apply for a position paying up to $98,777 a year doing this (and presumably other things) for the National Park Service:
“Become a part of our mission to unite our past, our cultures and our special places, to establish important connections to the present and build a rich and lasting legacy for future generations… “
For those who’ve never been to Gateway—established in 1972 as America’s first urban national park—here’s your new employer:
Located in the heart of the New York City, the park extends from Brooklyn and Queens to Staten Island and Sandy Hook, New Jersey. Its 26,000 acres include a wildlife refuge, holly forest, ocean dunes and coastal uplands, to former military fortifications, New York City’s first municipal airport and the oldest lighthouse in America. Visitors enjoy ocean beaches, organized sports, fishing, hiking, bicycling, nature study and a chance to explore the area’s important cultural heritage.
Say no more! Applicants do need to have some planning experience, and totally rad bonfires probably won’t qualify. Click here for job and application info.

hopefully the new hire will reopen the runways and get the place cleaned up a bit.
