What it is: Cozy corner bar from the folks behind Lowlands, Skylark and the Adirondack, with great bar eats, board games, cocktails and brews.

Why we love it: Everyone feels at home here thanks to a low-key, unpretentious vibe and comfortable retro-living room decor. When it’s nice out, having a beer or cocktail with friends at one of the sidewalk tables makes for a lazy, lovely afternoon.

What to order: Seven out of eight draft lines are reserved for rotating crafts, so see what’s on tap and take your pick. They’ve got a mighty fine cocktail menu as well; try the “Rolls Royce” martini, with Beefeater gin, sweet and dry vermouth, Benedictine and an orange twist. Feast on anything from burgers to burritos, wings to nachos, and feel the wave of comfort wash over you.

Regular tip: Abilene is also a great spot to host a party or event; inquire here.

Abilene is one of the featured bars in the 2015 Cocktail Book, on sale now!

What it is: German bier hall and tavern with Italian influences in the heart of Cobble Hill.

Why we love it: With the fireplace, exposed brick walls and reclaimed wooden tables, it’s a relaxing and romantic place to grab a bite and a drink with a date after seeing a showing at Cobble Hill Cinema just down the street.

What to order:  The house-brewed beer, Buschenschank Pilsner or Heffe, or one of the German brews on tap. Order pizza and a plate of wurst, because where else will you get the chance to eat both those cuisines under one roof? Also, homemade pretzels and bier cheese.

Regular tip: The “Ratskeller,” their elegant downstairs lounge, is available to reserve for private events.
