The ‘write’ of spring: Free writing classes today and tomorrow

This class could make you a literary Batman.

We’re always a bit on the fence about the usefulness of writing classes, as some will actually help you by telling you how to structure a piece of writing while others will gather a bunch of wide-eyed aspiring scribes into a room just to tell them that writing is 50 percent inspiration, 50 percent knowing someone who will publish your work, so just go out there and do it. Lucky for you that the Gotham Writers’ Workshop — they of those ubiquitous yellow boxes — is offering free samples of their more than 40 writing classes today and tomorrow. The one-hour sessions will introduce you to the faculty and give you a glimpse of how the classes work so you can see if it’s a right fit for you. You can sign up for two of the classes, which range from stand-up comedy writing and poetry writing to article writing and children’s book writing. Space is limited, so put down your copy of The War of Art and register ASAP!

If you can’t make a class today or tomorrow, Gotham is also hosting a few free one-hour writing workshops at bookstores. Pre-registration isn’t required for these.
