RE/Dress closing with a bang this weekend

Those sunglasses hide her tears. (But you can buy the trench at Big Girls United.)

RE/Dress, the plus-size Boerum Hill vintage store beloved by size 22 Mrs. Cleavers everywhere, is closing its doors on Sunday.  While the enterprise will live on as a web site, the owner is shuttering the store for financial reasons. Plus she’s leaving town for the West Coast next year. (Um, what???) Here’s what she says on the RE/Dress web site:

Part economics, part life change. I’ve worked hard for the last 3 years to make Re/Dress NYC a sustainable business and while we’ve had our great sales days and wonderful shopping events, the truth is our expenses are higher than our income. The signs on the horizon for the economy are daunting, therefore closing now seems like the best course of action. And my personal life-change journey is leading me to move to the Bay Area in 2012.

Tomorrow through Sunday, the store will be celebrating fashion designers who make plus-size clothing at Indie+, an event showcasing the likes of Domino Dollhouse, Sweetooth Couture and Big Girls United (no, not the “football” team.) Find out more about the closing ceremonies on the Facebook page, and click here to get your full-figure fashion fix from now on. Good luck, Deb!
