Signs of spring approaching include baseball, free trees and people making lists about signs of spring approaching. We can also add the Brooklyn Flea and Smorgasburg reopening to that list, and hey, look at that, next Saturday, April 5, the Flea and Smorgasburg will indeed be back. Where will they be? Pretty much everywhere: Williamsburg, DUMBO, Fort Greene and Park Slope are all getting a piece of the action. Hell, by the time you read this, they may have signed a deal to open an annex in your kitchen.
According to a press release, on April 5, Smorgasburg will return to the East River State Park at 11am, with their usual array of foods you can eat on both a stick and while carrying around in a little paper boat thing. Also on that day, the Fort Greene Flea (176 Lafayette Avenue) will open at 10am, as will Park Slope’s branch at PS 321. The Park Slope branch will be open on Sundays to, and will also have children’s programming (of course) from the likes of 826NYC, the Mark Morris Dance Center, the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music, Reel Works and more.
Then on Sunday, April 6, Smorgasburg will open in DUMBO at Pier 5 at 10am. You might be wondering where the East River Park Brooklyn Flea fits in to this, and the answer is, it doesn’t. The neighbors who hated having both the Flea and Smorgasburg every weekend apparently won half their battle, because the press release says that “The Sunday Flea will move to a new location for 2014.” There’s no word on where it will be yet, so we’ll just encourage wild speculation in the comments. Our completely uneducated guess? The Aviator Sports and Events Center!
