BK Top Five: The best things to do tonight, from dressing as Pepe to learning life is a lie

Dress for some feels tonight.

If you’re anything like me, you stayed up all damn night watching baseball and now you’re yawning, falling asleep at work and completely miserable to be around. The good news is there’s even more baseball to play and heartbreak to experience, which you can take in at any of the places listed here. The other news is that per the Brokelyn Events Calendar, there’s stuff going on, but I still recommend you watch baseball.

MEMGURLS PRESENTS: SPOOPY TIMES/DRESS 2 IMPRESS
Where will you Pizza Rat, non-sexy division, costume be most appreciated? Probably at a Halloween party that’s devoted to mining the internet for the best possible costume, from Pepe to the Rage Comic Guy to whatever other dumb shit has been popular on reddit or 4 Chan in the last six months. Get your costume right though, best dressed person there wins a bar tab.

DEAD DREAMERS: A CELEBRATION OF WEIRD FICTION
I think strange fiction should be celebrated all year-round, but I can also see why people would be more willing to indulge it during the month that’s been scientifically proven to be spookier than all other months. Since that month is almost over, indulge a little more weirdness and spookiness with a collection of authors reading things like The Case Against Satan and works by and inspired by cult horror author Thomas Ligotti.

HOW BROOKLYN WORKS: SEWERS AND WASTEWATER TREATMENT
Ever take the time to think about New York City’s sewers? We’d understand if you haven’t since the last time you saw Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but tonight you can get a more educational look at the river of shit that flows below us, with insights from two former Department of Environmental Protection deputy commissioners, an environmental planner who specializes in the Gowanus and the author of Water for Gotham, which traced the history of New York City’s path to building infrastructure for clean water.
6:30pm, Brooklyn Historical Society, 128 Pierrepoint Street, Brooklyn Heights, $5

HOW I LEARNED EVERYTHING IS A LIE
Of course, you might not want to learn about something concrete, even if you’re in the mood for learning. In that case I suggest hitting up Union Hall for their “How I Learned Series,” where people like Anna Drezen, Louis Peitzman and others will tell you the stories of how they came to realize that life is nothing but a cruel joke and loving people or baseball teams can only lead to heartbreak and disappointment and grumpiness.
8pm, Union Hall, 702 Union Street, Park Slope, $6

WRESTLING WEDNESDAY
Oh man is this night ever a throwback. You can get a look at some of your favorite wrestlers both living and dead pound the crap out of each other at the then-fledgling WCW’s Halloween Havoc ’91. Mick Foley! Vader! Steve Austin! Lex Luger! Dusty Rhodes! Ron Simmons! And so many more guys you’ll see and say, “Hey I know him from his more successful WWF/E run that came later” while you listen to a soundtrack spun by DJ Paul Bruno.
9pm, Nitehawk Cinema, 136 Metropolitan Avenue, Williamsburg, FREE
