Lola BKLYN
387 Myrtle Ave. (between Vanderbilt and Clermont)
Clinton Hill
(718) 858-1484
What is it: A North- American-fare-centric sister bistro to Chez Oskar, with quirky vintage decor and an emphasis on TV viewing parties.
Why we love it: The funky inside is complemented by a tree-shrouded backyard, where the bar occasionally hosts musical events. The menu offers a mix to appeal to all palates: its famous Duck Poutine (shredded duck confit with cheese curd, gravy and handcut fries) for meat-eaters; a garbanzo burger (with chickpeas, cilantro, oregano, garlic and shallots) for veggies.
Who to bring: Did somebody say “date night?” The bar’s mix of good beers on tap, a cocktail menu, cozy backyard and regular TV events, such as Arrested Development trivia night or Breaking Bad viewing parties, make it the perfect spot to post up in for a few hours.
What to order: Thursdays are all-you-can-eat mussels for $15, and Mondays feature a $15 beer-and-a-burger special. If you make it for one of the final Breaking Bad viewing parties, try the Pollos Hermanos chicken fingers.
Lola fun fact: Formerly called Chez Lola, this Clinton Hill anchor got away from its French-inspired menu and focused more on North American fare, and installed some Jack Keroauc quotes behind the bar to capture a particular continent-spanning vibe.
