Get your own World’s Coolest Office: Free coworking under the bridge

The phrase “meet me under the Brooklyn Bridge” had waaay different implications 20 years ago.

We freelancers, writers, job-hunters, and other non-office shackled professionals of Brooklyn know it’s an endurance test of self control to keep productively motivated while staring covetously out the window of the local coffee shop on these glorious late summer days. Don’t fight it! Every Thursday in August you can work outside under the Manhattan Bridge Archway in DUMBO at Loosecubes‘ free pop-up cowork space. It’s got wifi, some power, food vendors from the Brooklyn Flea and apparently minigolf. Reserve a spot and click away all day al fresco.

Loosecubes is one of the many startups based in DUMBO’s tech triangle with a ridiculously fun and laid back HQ that fights standard notions of typical office environment (they have a sweet tent and 3 puppies…). It’s a peer-to-peer global workspace sharing community that connects companies with open desks with professionals in relevant industries looking for an alternative to their couch or coffice.

Loosecubes is invite only, but here’s the hook up courtesy of DUMBO Business Improvement District.

Reviews give the archway space three stars for productivity, four for cool factor & community. It’s loud from the rushing traffic overhead so make sure to pack headphones. Also limited power sources, so go fully charged. Oh, and Brooklyn Flea vendors are there all day selling food and beer. And there may or may not  be a DJ and mini golf. Let’s get serious, we were never really going to work anyway.

By the way, you can get free wifi daily in the picnic area by Jane’s Carousel. But the networking probably won’t be quite as schmoozy.

  • Currently working here and, yea, it's bustling and a bit loud when the trains pass over, but any regular freelancer is used to ambient noise. Vibe is fun and friendly and the breeze is natural a/c. Vegans beware though that the scent of grilling meat permeates the air.
