For all the talk about how Brooklyn is a desiccated, used-up wasteland when it comes to creative endeavors, we still manage to be able to be privy to some pretty weird shit. Hot on the heels of last weekend’s live reading of a script about Peter Cetera, a young trumpeter and the apocalypse at Shea Stadium, we get yet another bonkers live script this week, this time a soap opera about sewer creatures from the mind of Jo Firestone. Oh and Jon Glaser will be there, in case you missed him at Shea Stadium.
Tomorrow night, Wednesday March 3, at Littlefield, you can see the premiere of Public Services, a variety show that features interviews (with Jon Glaser and Chris Gethard), stand-up comedy, “notable nobodies” (maybe you?) and of course the aforementioned soap opera about sewer people. You get all of this for just $5.
According to Firestone, the soap opera portion of the evening, “takes place underground with slime queens and mouse waiters and mole people,” but is an otherwise normal soap opera with things like murderers and double crossing, ghosts and the threat of death hanging over everyone. It stars a heap of some of Brooklyn’s best comic talent, like Joe Pera, Aparna Nancherla, Charles Gould, so if you’re going to see only one live-staged soap opera about sewer creatures this year, Public Services is the one with the Brokelyn seal of approval.
