Get a free taste of the best wings in Brooklyn next week at Red Star Bar

If you can look this clean at the end of the day, we salute you

Just because the Super Bowl is over doesn’t mean wing season is over. As it turns out, wing season lasts the entire year, which is great news for people who like chicken but don’t want to be bothered with a fork and knife. More good news for wings fans: it’s almost time for the fourth annual Best Wings in Brooklyn competition, at Red Star Bar. Get your stomachs in gorging shape, guys.

2010’s champion, Crown Heights’ Super Wings NY will be joined by Bean Post Pub, Mullholland’s, Buffalo Boss, Grandma Rose’s Lobo and many more in a face off to see whose wings are the most succulent, perfectly seasoned and tender in all of Brooklyn. They’ll be judged in part by you, the hungry audience, who get to vote on the coveted People’s Choice Award, which is handed out by none other than Marty Markowtiz, but also by a panel of expert judges. This year’s panel includes The L‘s Virgina K. Smith, Brooklyn Daily‘s Bill Egbert and oh, me, Dave Colon, handsome Brokelyn editor.

Entrance and eating the wings is free, but you’ll have to pay for a ballot. Fear not though! A portion of the evening’s proceeds will be going to the Theodore Atlas Foundation, a community service orginization, who’ll be using the funds to provide help to Sandy-ravaged areas of Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island. So you get to stuff yourself with meat AND you’re doing it for charity. Sounds like a win-win to us.

Fourth Annual Best Wings in Brooklyn Competition, March 16, 2pm, Red Star Bar, 27 Greenpoint Avenue, Greenpoint, FREE

  • I showed up about 45 minutes early last year and gave up trying to get in, the line was so long and slow. I'd recommend showing up way early and drinking copiously (to stave off the cold)
